Persimmon Tree Players of Fluvanna County and Victory Hall Players of Scottsville are proud to be hosting our first-ever local playwright festival!  This festival will celebrate the works of local playwrights through performances of their works at Victory Hall Theater August 21-24th.  If you are interested in submitting an original work for consideration for this festival, please read the guidelines below:

Works that will be considered:

• Plays and monologues (staged readings will be considered but are not preferred). 
• 10-15 minutes in length (up to 20 minutes would also be considered).
• Written by local playwrights, since said playwrights will be responsible for the productions of their works, including choosing a director and making sure that their shows have a cast and a production schedule leading up to August performances.
• Minimal sets and no more than 6 or 7 actors due to stage constraints and ease of moving from one play to the next.  There will be no true set, and minimal amounts of furniture on stage (if you have questions about this, please ask).
• You can submit up to 3 works for consideration for the festival.

Timeline for submissions and production:

• March 1, 2025, is the deadline for submissions of scripts.
• April 1, 2025, will be the selections committee’s deadline for choosing plays and notifying applicants.
• Mid-April 2025, there will be an organizational meeting for chosen playwrights and festival team, after which, director selection and auditions could occur.
• Late April or Early May, there will be an open call for actors to audition for any directors seeking additional performers to help with casting.
• Early June, rehearsals can begin evenings at Victory Hall Theater, or at a different venue if agreed upon by the playwright, director, and cast.

Other important information:

• PTP and VHP are not responsible for finding directors or actors for chosen plays.  Productions (including props, costumes, musical instruments, etc) are the responsibility of the chosen playwrights after selection.
• All works considered!  We are loosely theming it “life in a small town” but we encourage all original works for consideration.
